The Queensland economy: built on more than just coal and sunshine

"The paper examines the underlying structure of the Queensland economy to determine the contribution the resources boom has made to the state’s overall performance. Secondly, the paper aims to highlight the recent outstanding performance of the state economy and discusses each of the major drivers of this performance in more detail; namely population growth, infrastructure spending and the resources sector. Finally, this analysis is drawn together to present an outlook for the state’s economy and determine whether Queensland still remains an attractive destination for commercial property investment."

Toward Q2: tomorrow's Queensland

"Premier Anna Bligh has unveiled her blueprint for growing the Queensland economy over the next ten years and beyond. Ms Bligh said the watershed document – Towards Q2 Tomorrow’s Queensland – outlined her Government’s plans and priorities for the future. She said a quantum leap in early childhood education was one of the key planks of her plan. Challenges such as climate change, unhealthy lifestyles, preventable disease, population growth, and global competition have the potential to destroy our quality of life. Ms Bligh said the blueprint outlined ten specific targets for 2020 under five broad headings – strong, green, smart, healthy and fair."
