State of the environment report for South Australia 2008

Source: SA Environment Protection Authority
"The report shows the Coorong and Lower Lakes of the River Murray are in the poorest condition ever recorded and warns that without large volumes of freshwater inflows the water quality and ecological condition of these sites will continue to worsen and much of the damage may be irreversible. The report also finds the health of the rivers, streams and wetlands of the River Murray floodplain is declining due to the over-extraction of water from the river system. However, the report also shows the state’s net greenhouse emissions have decreased by 7% since 1990, while gross greenhouse emissions sources have been stable since 2001, and the proportion of energy generated from renewable energy sources has increased ten-fold since 2002."
