Source: Gladstone-Fitzroy Pipeline Project
"The Qld Govt is seeking comment by Dec 15 on the EIS for a planned 115km, 1m-wide water pipeline from the Fitzroy River, near Rockhampton, south to Gladstone. The project, estimated to cost $345m and expected to move up to 30 gigalitres of water a day, was proposed by the Gladstone Area Water Board to meet growing demand for water from industrial and domestic users. Fed environment minister Peter Garrett would have final approval of the project under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act. The EIS said the pipeline would have "negligible to minor" impacts on flora and fauna listed as threatened under the EPBC, including the grey-headed flying fox, the greater long-eared bat, the ornamental snake, the yakka skink, the red goshawk and the squatter pigeon."
