"In a stepped scheme over three reporting years, the NGER system sets a series of thresholds for GHG emissions and energy use or production, which reduce each year. The 2008-2009 reporting year threshold for facilities is 25kilatonnes (kt) of GHG and 100terajoules (tj) of energy production or consumption, and for corporations 125kt of CO2 and 500tj. This will reduce to 50kt for facility and 200tj for both facilities and corporations in 2020-2011. The Act requires companies to begin collecting and recording the data from today. Companies will have to determine whether they, or one or more of their facilities, meet the thresholds and under which threshold to report in 2008-2009."
