"The IPCC has predicted the area of land suffering increased water stress due to climate change will be more than double the mainly higher latitude areas suffering reduced water stress, in a technical paper on Climate Change and Water. Globally, the area of land classified as very dry had doubled since the 1970s, according to the paper. It noted current water management practices may not be robust enough to cope with the impacts of climate change on water supply reliability, flood risk, health, agriculture, energy and aquatic ecosystems".
